1. Are online medical certificate legal?

Yes – online medical certificates are valid and legal and are the same as certificates obtained in-person. The only difference is online medical certificates are provided virtually. With MediLeave your symptoms and request for an online medical certificate is reviewed, considered and signed by an AHPRA-Registered Doctor/Healthcare professional.

2. Why wasn’t I issued a certificate?

At MediLeave we are committed to providing exceptional healthcare tailored to each individual patient. While we strive to accommodate all requests, the approval and issuing of the certificate is at the sole discretion of the reviewing Healthcare Professional and can be declined if they believe that an in-person consultation is required for your case for further evaluation and further recommendations. Additionally, it is against Australian law to issue a certificate if they do not believe your symptoms make you unfit for work or university, or if they have reason to believe you are untruthful about your symptoms.

3. I did not receive my certificate

Certificates are usually sent within an hour but during peak times may take longer up to several hours. Also, please check your junk or spam folders as well. If you still haven’t received your certificate, please contact our Support team for help at info@medileave.com.au

4. Can I get a certificate for more than 2 days of sick leave?

We can only provide you with 2 single-day certificates in a row, after which if you are still unwell and need a 3rd certificate, an in-person consultation with a doctor is required. Multi-day (more than 2 days) cannot be provided through our online form.

5. Is it possible to get a backdated certificate?

Unfortunately, we cannot issue backdated sick leave or carer’s leave certificates due to legal restrictions. All certificates will have the request date as the starting date.

6. Will my employer or University/School accept the certificate?

According to the Australian Fair Work Act 2009, pharmacists can assess symptoms and issue certificates as valid proof of absence from work. However, some workplace agreements or awards might require certificates from a registered medical practitioner in certain circumstances. If you think this might apply to you, please verify before purchasing a certificate from us.

7. What can a certificate be used for?

Our certificates can be used to show your employer or university that you were unfit for work.

Should you require a certificate for reasons such as extended sick leave, compassionate leave, family/maternity leave, health/welfare entitlements or insurance claims, a certificate from one of MediLeave’s pharmacists may not be sufficient.

You should confirm with the required party that a certificate issued by a pharmacist will be suitable before using MediLeave

8. Can I choose the date I need a certificate for when requesting for a single day certificate?

The single day same day certificate will only cover the date that on which the request is made. Please note that the certificate will cover the full 24hrs of the date the request was made, not 24hrs from when the request was made.

9. I don’t live in Australia, can I use the certificate overseas?

No, certificates issued MediLeave are only recognised and valid in Australia. Please see a health professional in your country of residence

10. Can I have my illness included in my certificate

Unfortunately, we are unable to include details of your condition in the certificates

11. How are your certificates delivered to me?

Once approved, certificates will be sent to the email you have provided on our site when requesting the certificate.

12. What happens if my certificate is not approved?

If your certificate request is not approved, then you will be refunded in full.
